@ Brookline High School
A Little About Us
At Winthrop House, our objective is to develop resilient and confident students, ready to accomplish their goals for during and after high school.
We provide unique learning opportunities, from 1920s-themed Great Gatsby parties to bird-watching to frog dissections in science class. Our students receive the same level of learning as general education students within a smaller, more individualized environment. Our emotionally and physically safe space and supportive therapeutic environment allow students the foundations to succeed. We partner with families and outside supports to help students acquire and utilize the social-emotional, academic, and life skills needed for future success.
Our Space
As of January 2022, we have officially moved to the 22 Tappan building on the Brookline High School campus. Now with direct access to the Brookline Hills T Stop, additional classroom space, and our own kitchen, our newly built state-of-the-art facility allows for a creative and versatile student environment.
From the Students
Below is a little showcase of what we've been up to lately, including some words from current Winthrop House students reflecting on their experiences with the program.

"Winthrop House has given me a supportive environment to grow as not just as a student, but a person too. When I was struggling the most, Winthrop was exactly what I needed to succeed, and I am really lucky to have had it. Now that I'm doing a lot better, the blend of Winthrop House and mainstream classes has allowed me to challenge myself and push my comfort zone while continuing to work with my favorite Winthrop House teachers. It's really a beautiful community that values its members and has supported me through all four years of high school."
"The biggest difference between Winthrop House and mainstream BHS is how teachers and students interact. We all spend most of the day over here so we build stronger bonds with our teachers and classmates. Some people think we don't do actual work here, but it just isn't true. The academics at Winthrop House are on par with mainstream, but the smaller class sizes can make it feel easier because of the extra support. Teachers try to create projects and assignments that they know everybody is capable of but make adjustments if a student feels up for something more challenging."
